Selected branches of Tesco supermarket have started selling Viagra tablets over the counter. Viagra is a prescription only medication in the UK however, Tesco pharmacists have been given the go-ahead to provide the medication following a complementary in-store consultation. The supermarket giant maintains that pharmacists will be fully trained to fornire il farmaco Pfizer 100 mg a basso prezzo senza ricetta medica and that all patients will have to complete a questionnaire and have their blood pressure and cholesterol measured just as they would do at their GP surgery.
The biggest benefit to Tesco’s service of course is that ii is very cheap and during hard times people are likely to switch from their current provider to save. The price of the Pfizer pill will be £52 for 8 tablets compared with Boot’s price of £55 for four tablets. Low prices will certainly grab people’s attention, but it remains unclear how many people will actually take Tesco up on their offer.
A major disadvantage of the supermarket service is that it will not be available to all. The scheme is being rolled out in 300 stores nationwide and will be made available to men between the ages of 45 and 60 years. This means that even if your local branch has an in-store pharmacist he or she may still not be able to provide the service. Patients would also have to be screened by pharmacists to assess their suitability for pharmacy treatment and those with any medical complications whatsoever would be referred back to their GP.
Tesco’s service sounds nice and on the face of it helps to lower Viagra prices in the UK for the consumer however, the supermarket really fails to address the real issue facing users of the magic blue pill which is embarrassment. Most men are simply too embarrassed to visit their GP for the drug even if they are entitled to free treatment on the NHS, so why would these people risk being spotted by their neighbour buying Viagra in their local supermarket? The answer is, they wouldn’t and why should they? Erectile dysfunction is a distressing enough problem for most couples without adding the complication of having to tactically hide the drug amongst the bread and frozen peas.
